The Varmilo Mac Mechanical Keyboards have been designed and produced by the well established, and reputable brand, Varmilo.
Featuring genuine Cherry MX Switches, the Varmilo VA108Mac is a well made and affordable mechanical keyboard that boasts a loud design. This keyboard is suitable as your first or tenth mechanical keyboard, or would be an excellent gift for a special someone.
If you are looking for quality, look no further. The case features two folding feet, so that you can have your keyboard at either an angle, or perfectly flat. The body is made from plastic, and is sturdy and rigid. The VA108Mac features a removable microUSB cable, allowing you to use the one that is provided in the box, or your own custom cable.
The keycaps are PBT, and the legends have been dye subbed onto to the top.
This keyboard comes with White LEDs, and there are a variety of lighting settings.
This keyboard supports both MacOS and Windows. Users can use the function keys to switch between MacOS and Windows modes.
- This keyboard is wired, and not bluetooth.
The Cherry MX slient red is really nice. Gives the linear feedback as the red more or less as I expected with almost no sound. But the stroke distance is much shorter than I expected. I have a cherry MX red build with normal key distance. This one feels that it's padded. Don't know if it's really the slient red switch or the key board build itself. But this is something I can easily get used to. I'm not that particular on this aspect.
But the really annoying thing is the function key in mac mode. Every function key is mapped to a special function. You CANNOT switch it to the normal function key behavior even if you set it in the mac OS preference. You MUST always combine Fn + F1 (F2 ...) to get the normal function key behavior. In windows mode, no such problem.
This must be a firmware bug! Hugely disappointed on this front because I rely a lot on normal function key behavior.
If there's anyway to fix the bug and update the firmware. I would change my rating to 5 stars. But until then...
